About Me

Dear Kennedy Students -

I am so pleased that you will be in my class this year and if you are taking AP Government and Politics, I congratulate you on challenging yourself with this college level class.

As many of you already know, I was raised and schooled in Brooklyn, New York. I spent my school years living in a very crowded, exciting and tempestuous neighborhood full of challenges and untold benefits. I graduated from Erasmus Hall High School and attended Boston University before coming out to California with my husband, at that time.

While raising my son and daughter, I took classes at California State University Northridge and Cal State Los Angeles (Summa Cum Laude 4.0 GPA) where I received both my teaching and administrative credentials, as well as my M.A. in Educational Administration.

I taught for 8 years at Woodrow Wilson High School in El Sereno (East L.A.) and loved every minute of it. As a teacher in the Administration of Justice & Law Magnet, I taught Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Government, and Mock Trial. Our Mock Trial Team competed with other schools both public and private and we were LAUSD champions, and ultimately came in 2nd overall in Southern California competitions! I was later acknowledged by the LA Board of Supervisors, and received meritorious recognition for my work at Wilson High.

Following two years as Magnet Coordinator for the Administration of Justice & Law Magnet, I became Ass't Principal of Curriculum & Instruction for several years in Pasadena Unified School District (Marshall Fundamental High School) and in Culver City Unified School District (Culver City High School). While fulfilling these positions, I came to realize that my happiest moments were in the classroom, and so resolved to return to teaching shortly thereafter.

Thank you for joining me this year. I look forward to getting to know you better as we move through the school year.

Sincerely,

Ms. Assael, M.A.
